TURN UP Multimedia Festival 2025 will be held at the University of Arizona School of Music (Tucson Arizona) March 20-22, 2025. We are featuring composer and data instrument designer Chi Wang and guest performer Edward Goodman (saxophonist) and his students.
Featuring Artist: Chi WangChi Wang is assistant professor of music in composition: electronic and computer music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
She was previously an instructor at the University of Oregon, where she earned a D.M.A. in the performance of data-driven instruments. This emerging field combines composition, sound design, and performance of electronic music using repurposed game controllers and unusual custom-built instruments. Wang has performed her compositions at high-profile electronic music gatherings such as the International Computer Music Conference, where she won the Best Piece (Americas) award in 2018; national conferences of the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States, where her composition “Peony Garden” was voted by the membership to appear on the 2018 conference CD; New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival; and many others. |
Guest Performer: Edward Goodman
Saxophonist Edward Goodman is a versatile performer, improviser, and educator comfortable in a wide array of musical idioms. His playing as been described as “extraordinary…musical, expressive” (Larry Rachleff), distinguished by “the soul and passion he pours into the horn that draws the listener in close” (Dave Koz). Winner of the North American Saxophone Alliance Solo Competition and concerto competitions at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, Goodman’s 2020 debut album, Liminal, was considered “diabolically brilliant” (Fanfare Magazine) and featured interpretations that are projected “to become standard” (The Saxophonist Magazine) for this repertoire. Co-founder of the 2018 M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition-winning saxophone sextet, The Moanin’ Frogs, Goodman’s additional performance credits include the renowned PRISM and Donald Sinta quartets, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, and the Music Academy of the West. Goodman is the Associate Professor of Saxophone at The University of Arizona School of Music. |
