TURN UP Multimedia Festival 2025
March 20-22, 2025 in Tucson, AZ
Submission Deadline: Nov. 1st, 2024
The University of Arizona invites composers (acoustic and electroacoustic) and multimedia artists of any age, gender identity, race, sex, ethnicity, religion, or national origin to submit works or presentations to be featured at the Spring 2025 TURN UP Multimedia Festival in Tucson, Arizona.
TURN UP promotes Equality, Culture-Connecting, and Interdisciplinary Collaboration. We encourage partnership between different fields, cultures, and genders. TURN UP includes multiple lectures, presentations, and master classes from leading artists from different fields, different circumstances, and different geographic areas, and culminates with multiple multimedia concerts that include the works of select artists. We want to TURN UP the volume and visibility of artists from underrepresented groups in music, art, and technology.
Each concert will feature an 8.1 speaker diffusion system and stage video projection system. TURN UP accepts all visual art/music works and live and immersive art works, but we especially seek works that fall within one of the following categories:
1) Acoustic works for three performers or less.
2) Instrument(s)/voice(s) and fixed media or live electronics with or without video.
Featuring performances by saxophonist Edward Goodman and his students, and Faculty Artists of the University of Arizona School of Music.
Saxophone ensemble pieces are strongly encouraged!
Saxophonist Edward Goodman is a versatile performer, improviser, and educator comfortable in a wide array of musical idioms. His playing as been described as “extraordinary…musical, expressive” (Larry Rachleff), distinguished by “the soul and passion he pours into the horn that draws the listener in close” (Dave Koz). Winner of the North American Saxophone Alliance Solo Competition and concerto competitions at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, Goodman’s 2020 debut album, Liminal, was considered “diabolically brilliant” (Fanfare Magazine) and featured interpretations that are projected “to become standard” (The Saxophonist Magazine) for this repertoire. Co-founder of the 2018 M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition-winning saxophone sextet, The Moanin’ Frogs, Goodman’s additional performance credits include the renowned PRISM and Donald Sinta quartets, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, and the Music Academy of the West. Goodman is the Associate Professor of Saxophone at The University of Arizona School of Music.
*TURN UP will facilitate finding local performers, but will not guarantee to provide performers for all the selected pieces. Composers who bringing their own performer(s) are preferred and strongly encouraged.
3) Works for fixed media and/or live electronics up to 8.1 with or without video.
4) Installations, interactive media, and any type of multimedia works (artist to provide all non-standard equipment).
5) Live and immersive art works or installations
Submission Guidelines:
1) Each composer/artist may submit no more than two compositions/works.

4) For adjudication purposes, multi-channel works (up to 8 channels) must be submitted as a stereo mix and uploaded at New Music Engine.
